Limesquare to the rescue! Helping Mike Buss raise money for the Forces
Mike Buss, world renowned endurance athlete, faced a crisis during his fundraising attempt to complete the 3 Peaks Challenge when his local minibus supplier pulled out at the last minute.
Mike Buss challenged the local community of Swindon to complete the 3 Peaks Challenge to raise money for the Forces through charities such as The Soldiering on Trust. The aim of the challenge is to climb the largest peaks in the UK within a 24 hour period, starting with Ben Nevis (Scotland, 1,344m), then travelling to Scarfel Pike in the Lake District (978m) before finally finishing with Snowden (Wales, 1,085m). A massive total of 3407m is climbed and descended, an enormous feat not to be attempted by the faint hearted.
With the event taking place on Saturday 14th September, Mike was horrified when his local minibus supplier pulled out at the last minute, almost ending the challenge before it had begun. However Limesquare was more than happy to come to the rescue, and by donating a free minibus to support the cause the team was happily on their way.
With their new minibus Mike and his team, who were "raring to go", left Swindon at 7am on Saturday to begin the long journey up to the base of Ben Nevis at Fort William. The mountain conditions were exceptionally difficult for this time of year (which are traditionally fairly kind to hikers), meaning that all members of the group had to dig deep into reserves of strength they didn't know they had to complete the peaks. A three hour delay caused by an unlikely puncture to one of the minibus tyres meant that the team had to bypass Scarfell Pike and head straight to Snowden, but the team can still feel exceptionally proud of themselves for having completed the two arduous peaks that they did summit.
Mike thanked Limesquare for the donation of the minibus, and we would like to congratulate Mike and his team for raising money for such a worthy charity.
