Limesquare aids endurance cyclists for British Heart Foundation
Limesquare Vehicle Rental Ltd are happy to have played a role in facilitating the logistics of a fundraising effort for the British heart Foundation (www.bhf.org.uk).
Kevin West, of Xpress Relocation Ltd, and his brother, wanted to raise money for charity by their cycling prowess, and chose to jump straight in at the deep end by participating in the gruelling off-road version of the British Heart Foundation's classic London to Brighton Bike Ride. The classic version of this Bike ride, a 54 mile journey through breathtaking country lanes is the British Heart Foundation's flagship fundraising event, but the intrepid brothers opted for the longer and tougher off road version, "a challenging and testing route that mixes cycle path, single track cycling with forest paths", a route that has been described as "endurance riding with one killer hill and some tricky, fun down hills". A good level of fitness and riding ability is required for this event.
However they did face one immediate problem, that of transport. They needed to get their bikes to London, and to be picked up once they got to Brighton, and they also wanted their families to be at the finish in Brighton to cheer them in to the finish line. Having (very briefly!) considered, and rejected, British Rail as a viable option, the brothers turned to Limesquare Vehicle Rental for help, who suggested a transporter that could easily carry the people and two bikes as well as all of their extra paraphernalia. With this problem dealt with they were able to concentrate on the ride!
So on Saturday September 21st 2013 they set off from Frobel College, Roehampton University, London along a route that took them through Weybridge, Shere, Southwater Country Park and Steyning before taking on the largest incline in the final leg and then heading down to the finish in Brighton, a route which Kevin describes as "75 miles of rough terrain, horrendous hill climbs and collisions", with the added complication of a puncture thrown in for good measure! They reached Hove Lawns, on the seafront near the heart of Brighton, in just under 8 hours, where the Limesquare transporter was waiting to pick them up.
Kevin describes the day as "a great adventure and some good money raised for a great charity". Limesquare would like to congratulate Kevin and his brother on their achievement, and on managing to look so fresh and alert at the end of it! We are sure that they will go on to participate in many more such events.
