Limesquare Provides Vehicle In Aid Of ABF The Soldiers Charity
Limesquare is proud to have supplied a vehicle to a team from the Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust to take part in the charitable Cateran Yomp. A Ford Transit 17 seat minibus was supplied to transport the team and all their kit.
Marty Coldwell of the NHS Trust said, "The vehicle was superb and at 6'2, being able to stand up was a big bonus. It allowed us to transition in between our stops and find our extra kit easily. We actually had comments about the size of the vehicle from other competitors. It truly aided us in getting round swiftly and in comfort."
The team from the Central and North West London NHS Foundation (one of the largest trusts in the UK) not only provide care for people with a wide range of physical and mental health needs, in their own time, they organise, train for, and take part in charitable events such as the Cateran Yomp.
Marty adds, "We work on an acute mental health ward and are aware of the challenges Soldiers face in their difficult jobs often suffering from many Mental Health issues including depression and post-traumatic stress disorders. I am affiliated with the Forces being an Ex R.A.F Regiment Gunner so I understand the difficulties that soldiers and their families go through."
"The Yomp" (a military term for carrying weight over rough terrain for long distances) is an epic adventure challenge. Teams choose whether to take on 54 miles (gold), 36 miles (silver) or 22 miles (bronze) in 24 hours across the rough terrain of the Scottish wilderness.
The team from the Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust took on the 54 (gold) mile option. Marty says, "...lugging a 15kg backpack over 54.6 miles through the Perthshire countryside, up mountains through bogs, across fords, bridges, styles… It was quite simply the toughest thing I ever done (And I'm ex forces)."
Whatever the distance, the Yomp will put your limits to the test, both physically and mentally. It is a truly unforgettable weekend; an exhilarating experience, all whilst raising money for soldiers, veterans and their families.
Marty concludes by saying, "All in all it was an exhilarating, exhausting, emotional and painful experience but one that will live long in my memory... in fact we have already agreed to do it again next year."
